Brummbar + Sturmtiger - What You Can Expect

The Brummbar and Sturmtiger are probably the most wanted tanks in the game, closely competing with the Sherman Firefly.

Brummbar

The Brummbar can be found in the main list of leaked supertest icons, but no official models exist in the game. Supertest leaks  show the Brummar as tier 5 artillery, and as a premium. While shown as a premium, this tank is most likely going to be part of a German assault gun line that will be shown in 2014. This tank would play as a hybrid between an artillery and a tank destroyer. It would have a short range gun and slow reload, but monster damage for a tier 5.

Wikipedia: The Sturmpanzer was a development of the Panzer IV tank designed to provide direct infantry fire support, especially in urban areas. The result was the Sturmpanzer, which used a Panzer IV chassis with the upper hull and turret replaced by a new casemate-style armored superstructure housing a new gun, the 15 centimetres (5.9 in) Sturmhaubitze (StuH) 43 L/12 developed by Skoda. It fired the same shells as the 15 cm sIG 33 heavy infantry gun. Thirty-eight rounds, with separate propellant cartridges, could be carried. It used the Sfl.Zf. 1a sight. The combined weight of the shell and cartridge (38 kilograms (84 lb) for an HE shell and 8 kilograms (18 lb) for a propellant cartridge) made the work of the loader arduous, especially if the gun was elevated to a high angle. It was known by the nickname Brummbär (German: "Grouch") by Allied intelligence, a name which was not used by the Germans. Just over 300 vehicles were built and they were assigned to four independent battalions.

Sturmtiger

The placement of this tank is on that has been speculated many times over along with the Brummbar, is it a TD or an Artillery piece? While its design and fixed super-structure say TD, its nasty rocket gun is one that would put the T92 to shame. If anything WG would classify it as an "Assualt Gun" which would get different MM than say a TD or artillery piece. Expect this thing to play like a KV-2, minus the turret that is.

Wikipedia: Sturmtiger (German: "Assault Tiger") is the common name of a World War II German assault gun built on the Tiger I chassis and armed with a large rocket launcher. The official German designation was Sturmmörserwagen 606/4 mit 38 cm RW 61. Its primary task was to provide heavy fire support for infantry units fighting in urban areas. The few vehicles produced fought in the Warsaw Uprising, the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of the Reichswald. The fighting vehicle is also known under a large number of informal names, among which the Sturmtiger became the most popular.

Interview with E-Sports Players: Virtus.Pro - Koreetz

(Please Note: I am translating this directly from Russian to English)

MaxFearless: Hi, Andrew. Tell us about how got into "World of Tanks". How has your playing career differed since you started ?

Koreetz: Hello , Maxim . My brother introduced me into the game, he had played it for about 3 months before he showed me. At first, the game did not impress me , but after watching the gameplay , I saw its great potential in eSports. I had not started playing yet, but I knew I would become a professional gamer in World of Tanks. My gaming career developed and I got an IS-7 , started doing platoons , joined a clan, and ranked up to Company Commander in that clan. After that, I was thinking about the e-sport tournaments , and was ready to set up a team, which started with two captains - RestInPeace, and me. The team grew and we got serious when we started receiving funding and looking for sponsors . At first we had a hard time finding sponsors, but after the first season at WGL, sponsors wanted to sponsor us for the second tournament . After that I decided to go to Virtus.pro.

M: Tell me about how you prepare players for E-Sports , what is a crucial skill for this team-style game?

K: After one of the patches introduced the option to view replays we began to grow and train rapidly. We could view the replays of every player and team commander, and this helped like nothing else. To view players at an individual level and team skill, as well as view the coordination team and find their mistakes was a great leap for us. We believe the best tactic is preparation.

M: Can viewing these replays increase the individual skill of a player? What can you see from these replays?

K: Interesting question. All that matters (for us) is that the Commander of the team acts as distinct leader over the players and his individual skill. Hence the conclusion - the captain can not raise the skill of player. In fact, the situation is this: When I watch replays of all the players , I can see errors that are repeated with great frequency, and draw the conclusion that the player does not see this error of his ways. After that I go up to him and say that, in certain situations, you should act a different way. The player then goes to work on the problem. Yes, in general, it helps to improve his skills.

M: How important is it that the developers support e-sports? Do think it is just for them to earn more players and money?

K: In my opinion, it depends on how it will affect the game as a whole. If the goal is for the long term development of the game, then question is whether they need to maintain the competitive game. There is no need to reinvent the wheel , just look at StarCraft.(On the topic of spreading the game) Who would have known about StarCraft if it were not for e-sports? It is obvious that the developers are looking at the prospect of tanks , they have quite a lot and have done enough for the game. I think they are working in the right direction  are not stupid people. Should they help the gaming community or not? I will say this - the gaming community is a major part of eSports and competitive gaming, and will keep driving the game.

M: How can you  motivate a player who was lost interest in the game? How can you keep a positive atmosphere in a team if someone is creating a negative atmosphere?

K: This is a pretty serious problem that often have to face all the teams. Teams are made 7 people, and they all have their own character. There are many times when a situation is heating up and it should accepted that people get angry. Honestly, there needs to be a psychologist for some players. Since none of my clan-mates are a psychologist, it is best solved with heavy artillery - the team manager . Thank God we have a decent manager who can solve all the problems with team spirit, discipline and organization.

M: How do you make sure that a player is constantly training and improving their skills?

K: It's simple. I'm not always pleased with the team's performance and will always find a fault with a player and point it out to them, but in a positive way. This way each player, every day, is working on a fix on what I did not like in thier game yesterday. Every day after a tournament or training, I ask myself the question - what did I do today to get better? If I did something meaningful, it means that my day was not in vain.

M: What are the skills of a gaming professional in combat?

K: In order to win fights you must be able to properly assess the situation and  understand how much you can venture a situation or how to play carefully. First - do not be afraid to take risks. The second - high individual skill. To clutch a match you need to have high individual skill. In a stressful situation, you know, it's very hard to win if you believe you have already lost the fight. We have to do our best not to flinch, calm our nerves. Third - keep cool.

M: What is you opinion on mods in the game ? Some players think that mods detract from the gameplay.

K: Personally, I do not like mods because they are banned in tournaments ,and I can not get used to it - I do not use them at all. As for the opinion, can mods detract from the gameplay, well it all depends on the goals of the player. If he wants to play well, then he should not be using mods that distract him. If we are talking about a player who comes to play in the game for an hour or two, then maybe he will put all the graphics on high, set a lot of beautiful mods and will enjoy it . It all depends on the purpose .

M: Some players ditch their primary account and create a second to gain better stats. Does it make sense start the second an account, or is it a waste of time?

K: I do not believe that for a gamer this is the right decision because he has to spend time on researching new tanks and equiptment, thus wasting time that he could have used to raise their skill.

M: Finally, I will not ask about the game. What are your passions in life and your hobbies? How do you like to relax in your free time?

K: I enjoy a few sports: doing on horizontal bars and parallel bars . The second hobby - dieting . I want to understand what I eat and why. In my spare time, if the weather permits , I like to picnic. If the weather does not permit, then just like a lot of walking on the street.

Clan Wars Campaign II - What You Can Expect

Yes its here everybody, its the second clusterfuck, I mean Clan Wars Campaign. This campaign will be using a system of "Fame Points" instead of Victory Points. All of the clan will be competing for a chance to win a VK 72.01 "FailLowe", and there will also be a high gold reward for top clans, an expansion of the CW map. This campaign will feature WG competing against the other clans (probably so they don't have to give out more gold!)

Stages
1st Stage: Revolution Epoch (Tier I-VI)
2nd Stage: Train Robbery (Tier I-VIII)
3rd Stage: Gold Rush (Tier I-X)

Victory Points and Fame Points

Victory Points will be acquired from provinces and special tasks by a clan as a collective. These points will be used to determine the winner of each stage and later – of the entire Campaign. Victory Points will also be added each turn as a 1/24th part of the daily Victory Points’ income. The winner of the stage will be determined by the amount of Clan Victory Points earned within that stage. In the case of Victory Points being equal, the number of winners may be increased.

Fame Points are earned by clan members individually. They will be based on the amount of experience received in the Campaign’s battles, as well as on the completion of secondary tasks. A player’s Fame Points will equal the total amount of the team’s Fame Points divided by the number of team members and multiplied by special rates. These points will be the basis for the player’s individual ranking. Fame cannot be lost, and all gathered points will remain with the player until the Campaign’s end.

Medals
The clan that wins Stage I will receive the ‘Emperor’ medal.
The clan that wins Stage II will receive the ‘Nomad’ medal.
The clan that wins Stage III will receive the ‘Gold Digger’ medal.
The clan that takes first place in the Campaign, based on the amount of Victory Points, will receive the ‘Triumphator I Class’ medal.

The clan that takes second place in the Campaign, based on the amount of Victory Points, will receive the ‘Triumphator II Class’ medal.

The clan that takes third place in the Campaign, based on the amount of Victory Points, will receive the ‘Triumphator III Class’ medal.

All players who participate in at least one battle in each Stage will be rewarded with a special ‘2nd Campaign Competitor’ ribbon.

Q&A from Reddit:

Q: DarkXFire: What each stage will entail? (Or at least the first one.)
A: Each CW stage will offer the chance to earn a VK7201 and a large sum of gold along with a medal.

Q: not_awsome: Can someone explain what fame points are? What are they used for?
A: The fame points will act like victory points in the last campaign. Fame points are going to be rewarded based on experience gained in CW battles for this campaign. The system is as follows [Fame Points per player] = ([Fame Points gained as a team] / [Total number of team members in battle]) * [Fame Multipliers]. Easy to understand, I know.

Tankspot 12: T24

This is probably going to be one the shortest Tankspots because I could get, as they say in the industry "fuck all" information about this tank (in WoT at least). But never the less I will try to bring you all that I can find. What is known is that it was prototyped and designed along side the T40 Tank Destroyer and during the summer of 1941, Baldwin Locomotive Works began development of a vehicle to fill the need for a true tank destroyer. They began with the chassis of an M3 Lee medium tank, added a modified superstructure with an open, hexagonally-shaped top, and armed the vehicle with the M1918 3-inch gun. "Baldwin later returned to the Army was basically a somewhat improved T24. Indeed, it was the T24 pilot vehicle, simply modified with a slightly lower superstructure and some minor improvements to the weapon and related systems. The vehicle was accepted for testing at Aberdeen once more, this time under the designation of T40. The Ordnance Department was still far from impressed, but a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese, and the subsequent entry of the United States into the war prompted the vehicle's adoption as the Army's first standardized full-track tank destroyer. It was christened the 3-inch Gun Motor Carriage, M9, and a production contract was awarded for 1,000 examples. However, as the vehicle was not truly up the Army's standards, the contract was cancelled only four months later, in April 1942. The M9 had simply proven too slow, and furthermore, its 3-inch main armament was not available in sufficient quantity. As the vehicle had a basis on the M3 Lee medium tank, the silhouette was also above the minimum for a vehicle intended as an ambush predator. The Tank Destroyer Board finally abandoned the project at the end of the summer of 1942, officially due to the insufficient mobility and speed of the vehicle." In World of Tanks this tank would fall into the place currently occupied by the T40 (because they are essentially the same tank, except maybe moved down to tier 3 to make the best use out of the M3 Lees gun).

First Look: WARPACK

CONTENT WARNING: I AM IN NO WAY RELATED OR AFFILIATED WITH THE WARPACK WEBSITE OR DEVELOPMENT TEAM. I AM PUBLISHING THIS BECAUSE THE MORE YOU KNOW, THE SAFER YOU ARE!

What exactly is the world of Tanks WARPACK? Well the first thing is, its illegal! Yep, pretty much anyone that is caught using this pack runs a high risk of getting the ban hammer from WG. So what exactly does this mod do that makes it illegal? Well to start off it originally had hacks directly related to the .exe which are a big no-no for WG, but these were fixed a few patches back when they were made server side. But enough of this dribble, here is what it does now as of patch 8.8:

- Smart modified autoaim, that can track a target behind obstacles and highlight its contour. Also, it doesn't aim at the center of the vehicle, but at (preprogrammed) vulnerable spots. Oh, and it also calculates the speed of the target and aims in front of it to compensate (pre-aim) (Debatable Legality)

- Automatic fire extinguisher/repair, a script that triggers the repair/extinguish automatically as soon as it happens (Debatable Legality)
- Removes any aim circle jerking (contrary to the official version, there is no jerk even when you get rammed) (ILLEGAL!)
- Counterarty hack that puts a red dot on the spot enemy arty just fired from (ILLEGAL!)
- Sixth sense mod that replaces the perk (if you don't have it), it shows you not only you are targetted but also who's targetting you (ILLEGAL!)
- Artymode for tanks and TDs, snipermode for arty (with the artymode you can fire HE shells accross the map with a regular tank) (ILLEGAL!)
- Tracerhack (visible and color tracers) (ILLEGAL!)
- A mod showing on minimap where trees fell or buildings got destroyed ("ideal for field commanders") (ILLEGAL!)
- A mod that removes ALL vegetation and "binoculars" in sniper mode (Illegal on most servers, not enforced on some)
- Laser pointer mod (ILLEGAL!)
- A free camera mod (Debatable Legality)
- Enemy reload timer (Debatable Legality)
- White wrecks (Legal)
- Fire burst mode (ILLEGAL!)
- Extended zoom in sniper mode (Legal)

(Notice as of March 2015, the video was removed from youtube via a copyright strike from a Wargaming affiliated service. They have destroyed my channels content and have made this video unlisted. I am trying as hard as I can to bring my videos back.)

You may think this is great, and how do I download it? well here the real answer: you don't. This mod pack is nothing but trouble. First off the site requires that you give them your Wargaming ID and password (Red Flag 1). Secondly they charge your credit card monthly and are very shady about cancellations (Red Flag 2). Thirdly  the mod itself is very unstable and crashes a lot with newer maps. Don't believe me? Well have a look here:

This mod is no good, and anyone who actually gives their credit card and WG ID are downright insane. For those truly brave enough here is the website: http://warpack.net/en/index

Chi Nu Kai - What You Can Expect

The Chi-Nu Kai is a tier 5 Japanese medium that was added to supertester's accounts in the 8.8. This tank is all about the gun, mostly because the armour is crap. While 75mm of frontal turret armour is ok for a tier 5, dont expect it to be bouncing shots like a Churchill or T14. The Chi Nu Kai will most likely be added in 8.9 or 9.0 to foreshadow the Japanese tech tree much like the Matilda BP did for the British tech tree. This tank definitely fills a gap in the tier 5 premiums of lightly armored tanks with good guns. 124mm of penetration, 125 average damage, and a ROF of 12, this thing will have no problems absolutely shredding heavier tanks including the T14, Churchill and Matilda IV.  Also expect to be running circles around almost all of tier 5 heavys, TDs, and some mediums.

Tankspot 11: Sherman III "Firefly"

Its one of the most feared and high honored Sherman to be built. The Sherman III Firefly was a British modification of the M4 Sherman, mounting a fearsome 17 Pounder designed to destroy Panthers and Tigers. This tank has been a long time coming for World of Tanks players, with its great gun along with decent mobility it has been speculated to show up in either a medium or tank destroyer tree, along with rumors of it becoming a premium. This tank would probably be tiered with the TOG or Sentinel tanks at tier 6 or 7.

(Pictured: Sherman II, the British Lend Lease Sherman that the Firefly is based off of.)

Wikipedia Information: The Sherman Firefly was a Second World War British variant of the American Sherman tank, fitted with the powerful British 17-pounderanti-tank gun as its main weapon. Originally conceived as a stopgap until future British tank designs came into service, the Sherman Firefly became the most common vehicle with the 17-pounder in the war.

Though the British expected to have their own new tank models developed soon, British Major George Brighty championed the already-rejected idea of mounting the 17-pounder in the existing Sherman. With the help of Lieutenant Colonel Witheridge and despite official disapproval, he managed to get the concept accepted. This proved fortunate, as both the Challenger and Cromwell tank designs experienced difficulties and delays.

After the problem of getting the gun to fit in the Sherman's turret was solved, the Firefly was put into production in early 1944, in time to equip Field Marshal Montgomery's forces for the Normandy landings. It soon became highly valued as the only British tank capable of defeating the Panther and Tiger tanks it faced in Normandy at standard combat ranges. In recognition of this, German tank and anti-tank gun crews were instructed to attack Fireflies first. Between 2,100 and 2,200 were manufactured before production wound down in 1945.

Source on the Sherman I + II: Three different variants of Sherman Firefly served during the Second World War, each based on different variants of the M4 Sherman. The Firefly conversion was carried out on Sherman I (M4), Sherman I Hybrid (M4 Composite) and Sherman V (M4A4) tanks. Some sources state that several Sherman IIs (M4A1) were converted and used in action, but photos allegedly showing these conversions are in fact views of the front half of Sherman I Hybrid Fireflies. To complicate matters, a very small number of Canadian licence-built Sherman IIs (M4A1), the Grizzly, were converted to Fireflies in Canada and used for training, but none saw action. The majority of Shermans converted were the Sherman V/M4A4 model, of which the British received about 7,200. The Sherman VC and IC variants are easily distinguished by their lower hulls; the VC having a riveted lower hull with a curved shape while the IC has a welded and angled lower hull. The Hybrid can be distinguished by its upper hull which is cast and which gives it a distinctive curved look in comparison to the more boxy hull of a typical Sherman.

Tankspot 10: M3 Grant

Yep its time for the British brother of everyone favorite M3 Lee. The M3 Grant was an uparmoured, up gunned version of the M3 Lee. This tanks only downside over the M3 Lee was its speed. The grant served in North Africa until the end of that campaign. A regiment of M3 Mediums was also used by the U.S. 1st Armored Division in North Africa. In the North African campaign, the M3 was generally appreciated for its mechanical reliability, good armor and heavy firepower. In world of tanks this would probably fall as a premium or part of a tech tree along with the Sherman II and the Sherman Firefly.

Tier: 4

Gun Type: 75mm Canon

This tank appeared for a brief moment in a video that also showcased the French super-heavies.

Wikipedia Information: The Medium Tank M3 was an American tank used during World War II. In Britain the tank was called by two names based on the turret configuration. Tanks employing US pattern turrets were called the "General Lee", named after Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Variants using British pattern turrets were known as "General Grant", named after U.S. General Ulysses S. Grant.
Design commenced in July 1940, and the first M3s were operational in late 1941.[1] The U.S. Army needed a good tank and coupled with United Kingdom's demand for 3,650 medium tanks immediately,[2] the Lee began production by late 1940. The M3 was well armed and armored for the period, but due to design flaws (high silhouette, archaic sponson mounting of the main gun, below-average off-road performance) it was not satisfactory and was withdrawn from front line duty as soon as the M4 Sherman became available in large numbers.

Tankspot 9: Sentinel AC I & Sentinel AC IV

Sentinel Mk. I

The Sentinel 1 was designed in Australia in WW2 in response to the war in Europe, and to the threat of Japan expanding the war to the Pacific or even a feared Japanese invasion of Australia. It was the first tank to be built with a hull cast as a single piece, and the only tank to be produced in quantity in Australia. The few Sentinels that were built never saw action as the armoured had been equipped by that time with British and American tanks.

In world of tanks this tank would probably be a tier 3-4 premium medium for the British tech tree.

Known Stats:

Tier: 3-4
Classification: Medium
Tech Tree: Premium
Gun Type: 2pndr Canon

Wikipedia Information: The AC1 began as a 2 pounder gun-equipped design in November 1940, and was initially intended to be a true Cruiser tank. Like the Canadian Ram the Australian Cruiser was to be based on the engine, drive train, and lower hull of the American M3 Medium tank, mated to an upper hull and turret built closely along the lines of a British Crusader. By 1942, trying to keep pace with German tanks, the design specification had become more like an American medium tank.
Due to a lack of home grown experience in tank design a mission was sent to the US to examine the M3 design and Colonel W.D. Watson MC, an artillery officer with many years tank design experience was provided by the UK. He arrived in December 1940.
The Australian Cruiser tank Mark 1 (AC1) was designated "Sentinel" in February 1942. Fabrication was by Sydney's Chullora Tank Assembly Shops with serial production vehicles emerging in August 1942, the premises also being used as a testing ground. The design used existing parts where available from other tank designs, simplified where necessary to match the machining capacity present in Australia. The hull was cast as a single piece, as was the turret; a technique not used on the hull of any other tanks of the era.
The original vehicle was designed to mount a QF 2 pounder this was later changed to a QF 6 pdr (57 mm, 2.25 in). However none of these were available and the first 65 tanks were built with the 2 pounder. Two Vickers machine guns were carried as secondary armament, one in the hull and a second mounted coaxially beside the main gun. The preferred engines suitable to power a 28 tonne tank, a Pratt & Whitney Wasp single row petrol radial, or a Guiberson diesel radial, were not available within Australia, so the Sentinel was powered by the combined output of three Cadillac 346 in³ (5.7 L) V8 petrol car engines installed in clover-leaf configuration (two engines side-by-side to the front and a single to the rear: all three feeding a common gearbox). Sixty-five production vehicles had been completed by June 1943.

The Sentinel AC IV
The AC IV was an upgunned version of the Mk. 1. It was experimented with a 17pnder and 25pndr gun. This tank would be around the same tier as the TOG II* or higher because of its slightly similar characteristics of low armour / great gun.
